First United Methodist Church ENews
Sunday, September 1
9:00 One Worship Service
Dear Friend,

The scriptures teach us about humility and encouragement, because nothing we do is on our own. Nothing we have gained comes from our work alone. We need one another, and ultimately we need our Creator, who has given us the whole earth.
We help each other. No one pulls themselves up by their bootstraps; God is the one who provides and aids us, and we are called to provide and help one another, especially those in need among us.
Jesus warns against those who would proudly assume positions of power, for humiliation will be their undoing. Instead, we are called to encourage and build up one another, to be kind, and to help each other.
READINGS

God speaks out against God’s people who have forgotten God’s salvation and turned to other gods – God’s people have abandoned God who is the fountain of living water and have dug cracked cisterns for themselves.
Words to live by: Love one another and be hospitable, share the pain of those who suffer, be faithful in marriage, be content with what you have and follow the example of faithful leaders.

Jesus advises his followers not to take places of honor at feasts, in case they be asked to move and are humiliated. Rather, he invites them to take seats at the foot of the table, so that if they are invited to a better place, they will be honored. Further, when hosting dinners, he encourages them to invite those who cannot repay – the marginalized and rejected.
Prayer
God who separated the waters, who called forth Light-You are the same one who made us in Your image, and the same one who came to us as Christ. You are the same one who brings stars to birth and washes the disciples’ feet. You are the same one whose Spirit formed the planets from a formless void of universe, and breathes the Spirit into us. You are the same one who brought forth life on this planet and call us to serve the last of all and least of all. You are the One God, the Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth and All Things, and You have loved us as one of us. May we understand Your love with great humility and thanksgiving, and do our part to belong to Your beloved community here on earth as it is in eternity. Amen.

It’s almost September, so it’s time to start thinking about your
Christmas greens and garlands!
I know, you’re saying “Seriously??”   Well yes seriously, and here’s why….

Fusion would like to retrofit our existing wired mics and go
wireless.  This improves the following:
the sound of our vocalists,
the sanity of our sound techs moving cables back and forth,
the messy look in the front of the Praise Team in the Chancel area,
and the safety of those Fusion members that are clumsy and often trip over chords….

This is an expensive undertaking, so Fusion will be selling Christmas greens and garlands this year to help us raise those funds.
Ordering in early Fall and placing our order in mid-October gives us the largest discount available through Noble Farms.
Please consider ordering your Christmas greens in September.
Starting on Sunday, September 1st, order forms can be found before and after Sunday services near the water fountain and on the MUSIC
bulletin board outside of Brianna’s office.

Donations are also gratefully
accepted.
Many thanks in advance!
