Dear Friend,

Temptations surround us every day. Even Jesus felt its pull in the wilderness. But when we keep our focus on God’s call in our lives, we find the strength to move beyond its pull-we find the resources to move toward greatness.
God warns the man and woman in Eden not to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, but they are tempted by the serpent, and eat some of the fruit, at which point they realize their nakedness and cover themselves with fig leaves.
A Psalm of David celebrating God’s forgiveness which is given so freely to those who confess their sin and do not try to hide it, and also an acknowledgement of God’s invitation to guide God’s people and lead them to life.

Through one person sin entered the world, and all people have likewise sinned against God, but in Christ, God has given the free gift of forgiveness and right relationship with God.
Jesus is tempted by the devil in the wilderness, but overcomes the temptation to satisfy his appetites by turning stone into bread, to gain power and influence by the miraculous act of throwing himself off the temple, and to gain the world’s wealth by worshiping the devil.
Prayer
God of the Wilderness, help us to find peace when we do not know which way to go. Help us to listen for Your Wisdom above the noise of the world. Help us to remember that when we face temptation, when it feels like the devil is near us, You are the one who made the wilderness and is always near us. You are the one who loves us.
You are the one who teaches us the greater way of faith, hope, and love. Guide us through the barren landscapes of our life, reminding us that even in the deepest valleys, we are not alone, for You journey with us. We seek Your wisdom, hope, and insight, so that we might gain eternity in the moments we share in this life. Amen
