Pentecost Sunday

Service of Holy Communion

Worship Celebration

God in your mercy, hear our prayers as we lift up to you the community of Uvalde, TX.

Despite the good news of the resurrection, the post-Easter disciples were a rather tentative bunch. They had lost their leader. There was dissension all around them. They were understandably afraid, for their friend and teacher had just been executed by the government. Into their already turbulent lives blew the life-changing wind of the Holy Spirit. Yikes! But as promised in John, the Advocate empowers, comforts, encourages, and strengthens the disciples. To claim the same gifts today, we need only give our fears to the Wind, and open our lives to be transformed.

READINGS:
Spirit Filled.jpg

Acts 2:1-21:

The believers are filled with the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, and they start to praise God in various languages.

Holy Spirit Power.jpg

John 14:8-17, 25-27:

Jesus promises the Holy Spirit to be an advocate for his followers, and to lead them into truth.

Prayer…

Holy Spirit, we confess that we have dampened our own spirits. The news of kindness and compassion and goodness often does not make it to our hearts, and instead we only feel and experience the brokenness and pain. You are alive, active, in the world now and in us, and yet we sometimes are stuck in cycles of despair and hopelessness. Lift up our hearts, O God, and call us to lift our voices. Even when we cry out in pain and suffering, may we be lifted up so that we rejoice. May we remember You always have the final word and You always make things new again. Hate and despair, hopelessness and violence and death will never have the last word, for You are about to make all things new again. Holy Spirit, may we trust in You and be filled with Your power. Amen.

Be sure to join us this Sunday for Pastor Luis’ final worship with us.

We will have communion together. For those watching the livestream, remember to have your communion elements.
